So Long, Farewell… It’s Goodnight From Me…
The FPI Blog – 2005 – 2018
Well, you might have heard, you might have not, but as from this week, the FPI Blog shall be no more. The online side of things at FPI is changing, and the blog simply isn’t part of the future sadly. But, it’s been a wonderful thing while it lasted, a decade plus of incredible comics coverage, serving the UK comics scene as only a few others have really done over the years.
Yep, from this weekend, the blog is being shuttered. Alas.
I started here in 2007 (with this post in fact), a couple of years after the blog itself had started. Initially, it was meant to be the place for a few reviews. It swiftly became a lot more than that. And now, after over 6,000 posts from me, it’s time to say goodnight.
Over the years it’s been an absolute pleasure to write here, and I’d like to thank everyone involved in the creation of the blog and the various writers we’ve had the pleasure to host here. But, most especially, I’d like to thank Joe Gordon and Kenny Penman. Kenny was the one who first noticed the few scribblings I did as a staffer at Nostalgia & Comics and invited me to bring the newsletter reviews I used to do there over to the blog when I moved up to Yorkshire and found the commute just a little too much. I would never have thought, when that first little review post went up in 2007, that it would have led to me being able to write full-time.
And Joe, well Joe has been the glue that’s held everything together over the years, the main writer and editor on the site. There’s over 18,000 articles, reviews, news pieces, and more here on the FPI Blog, and the lion’s share of that is Joe. So, thank you to Joe for welcoming me on board, thank you for the hours and hours you’ve spent making the FPI Blog what it was.
And finally, thank you to all of you involved in whatever way in the UK and wider comics industry; retailers, publishers, writers, artists, colourists, letterers, editors, journos, fellow writers about comics, and everyone who’s ever visited the site and enjoyed what we’ve been doing these many, many years. It’s been a genuine pleasure writing about so many wonderful comics and, hopefully, introducing you all to some great writers, artists, comic makers along the way.
If you’re looking for somewhere to get a regular fix of UK comics stuff, do make sure to check out Broken Frontier, Down The Tubes, and if you’re wondering where to find me, well, I’m still writing about comics, whether it’s for Comicon.com, Comicscene UK, 2000AD, or wherever else my freelancing life may take me. But the FPI blog was my first proper comics writing gig and will always have a fond place in my heart. If you want me to talk to you about comics, I’m easy to find – @richardbruton on Twitter, or email at email@example.com.
The FPI Blog – 2005-2018.
I’ll leave the last word to Joe, trusting he’ll close the door and turn the lights out on the way out.
